NILS Volunteers

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but actions speak far louder than words.

Volunteer Roles

Purpose:

Our volunteers are crucial to the success of NILS and their help and support is invaluable to the charity and its clients. The purpose of being a volunteer is twofold:

  • To enable us to provide the best possible service and support to new and existing clients by helping the office Administrator in their role

  • To provide the opportunity to develop your own skills and confidence and be part of a team that makes a difference to peoples’ lives

Outline expectations:

While we don’t necessarily expect our volunteers to have experience of working in an office environment, we are looking for people who:

  • Can engage with our clients, suppliers and partners by phone, in person and by email in a way that represents NILS positively and is consistent with our values of Integrity, Inclusivity, Community and Respect

  • Are good listeners, non-judgmental and can be relied upon to keep all information completely confidential

  • Can give of their time regularly, whether it be weekly or monthly, anything from an hour upwards

  • Have a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate or are happy to undergo a DBS check as we are dealing with vulnerable people and their money

Overview of the role:

Training will be provided, but below is a list of the tasks we like our volunteers to get involved in:

  • Opening and closing the office if the Administrator is unavailable

  • Answering the telephone, dealing with emails

  • Handling walk-in enquiries and making appointments to see the Administrator

  • Maintaining client records

  • Processing loan applications

  • Liaising with suppliers from whom we purchase goods for our clients

  • Banking

  • Taking part in promotional and fundraising activities

If you would like to find out more, please complete and submit the application form below and we will contact you to arrange a meeting.
